Museo Histórico Sarmiento

Museum that briefly housed Argentina's national government.

Present in tours

Belgrano

This building, inaugurated in 1871, briefly housed Argentina's federal government during a conflict between the authorities of the nation and the authorities of Buenos Aires city in 1880, at which time the municipality of Belgrano remained beyond the city limits.

The current museum was created in 1938 to mark 50 years since the death of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, an important statesman, educator, writer, and president of Argentina. Exhibits include personal items, including Sarmiento's library and archive.

The building has an eclectic style with Italian influences. It was designed by the architect Juan A. Buschiazzo.
