8.00am | A walk through the ecological reserve

Start the day in the city's lung.

Present in tours

Start experiencing the city for free at the one of largest inner city ecological reserves in the world. On the shore of the De la Plata river, just metres from the city's financial centre, the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is a haven for wildlife, with many species of native vegetation and birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. And this is the best time to visit: early in the morning when there are few people. If you walk slowly and pay attention, you might find lizards, otters, weasels, Montevideo tree frogs, and many species of butterflies.

Free maps of the reserve are available at the entrance, allowing you to identify the sounds, colours and eco-sytems of the area, and there are even free guided tours in electric cars.
