3.00pm | Art galleries in Villa Crespo and Palermo

Two barrios home to many galleries.

Present in tours

There are dozens of galleries in the neighbouring barrios of Villa Crespo and Palermo. In Villa Crespo, an obligatory stop is Ruth Benzacar (Juan Ramírez de Velasco 1287), while on the border of Villa Crespo and the Chacarita neighbourhood, you'll find SlyZmud (Bonpland 721), another gallery exhibiting contemporary artists' work. Close to here is La Ira de Dios (Aguirre 1029), a non-profit association formed by artists and people dedicated to culture, and a venue for regular contemporary art exhibitions.

To see more of this kind of art, head to Gachi Prieto (Aguirre 1017), which displays work by contemporary artists from throughout Latin America, and walking a little further, crossing Avenida Juan B. Justo, there are still more galleries: Pabellón 4 (Ramírez de Velasco 556, PB), which opened in 1996 and moved here in 2014, Nora Fisch (Av. Córdoba 5222), Document Art (Castillo 243) and Arte X Arte (Lavalleja 1062). Meanwhile, in Palermo, you'll find La Galería Unión (Costa Rica 5929), focusing on urban art with a permanent exhibition as well as temporary displays and collections of posters on sale. Another gallery in the neighbourhood, Hollywood in Cambodia, which is intriguingly located at the back of a bar (Post Street at Thames 1885) was the first gallery in the city dedicated entirely to the work of street artists.

Try to visit these galleries in the week, because some close at the weekend

Tip

The gallery Pabellón 4 hosts a programme of residencies called Proyecto CUBO, which is described as an experimental laboratory in which four artists (two Argentine and two from abroad) work for a full year alternating collective and individual exhibitions. Each edition of the project invites a curator to add dynamic to the dialogue between the artists and generate criticism.
