Pasaje Zelaya

Close to the Abasto shopping centre and Carlos Gardel's last home, now the Carlos Gardel Museum House, this street is decorated with six iamges of the singer's face on the shutters of buildings.

The urban art intervention, named Tango Abasto, is the work of local artist Marino Santa María, who refers to the images as his "pop Gardel" for his use of Andy Warhol's pop art style. The artist intended the piece to be a comment on the international mythologisation of Gardel as an example of Argentine culture "for export". 

The city tourist board offers a free walking tour, Balvanera: Tango and the Abasto Market on Saturdays.
