Check out the world-class acoustics at the Nestor Kirchner Cultural Centre (CCK)
The Centro Cultural Kirchner (CCK) is the largest cultural centre in Latin America and the third largest in the world. It occupies the entire building of the former central post and telegraph office - one of the city’s most important historic buildings and an outstanding example of French second empire architecture.
The modern, diverse cultural centre boasts a huge 100,000m2 of space spread over an incredible nine floors, dedicated to art, music, theatre and dance.
The highlight is the Ballena Azul or blue whale – a balloon-like, three-storey, 1,750-capacity concert hall floating in what was the package-sorting area of the former post office, and offering acoustics that are among the best in the world.
There’s also a 540-capacity chamber hall and a further six auditoriums each with a capacity of more than 100 spectators, while former post and telegraph service offices have been converted into spaces for video projections, poetry readings, theatre performances, conferences and exhibitions. The building also has two rooftop terraces offering great views over the city.
There is a regular programme of free concerts, shows and exhibitions, plus guided tours of the centre. Visit www.cck.gob.ar for details.
