This basilica, inaugurated in 1883, was Pope Francis’s regular place of worship during his infancy and adolescence. It was here that at the age of 17 he decided to dedicate his life to God. He decided to start his papacy on March 19, 2013, in order to coincide with Saint Joseph’s Day (San José - the patron saint of this church).
