Parque de la Memoria

A riverside park created in memory of the victims of Argentina's last dictatorship

The Parque de la Memoria is a public park created in memory of the victims of state terrorism in Argentina.

Located on the shore of the Rio de la Plata in the north of Buenos Aires City, the 14-hectare park, contains a monument to the victims of the military dictatorship that ruled Argentina from 1976 until 1983, as well as an information centre about those who disappeared during the military regime, a function hall used for cultural events, and a series of sculptures that were chosen through an international competition in 1999.

The location of the park was chosen because of its proximity to the Jorge Newbery airport, from where the military dictatorship operated "death flights", during which many victims were thrown from planes into the Rio de la Plata river below.
