DE LA TORRE, LISANDRO AV. y DE LOS CORRALES AV.
The Feria de Mataderos, or Mataderos fair, brings the Argentine countryside to the city, and offers a glimpse of the country's history and traditions.
Located in the Mataderos neighbourhood, opposite the old Mercado Nacional de Hacienda (National Livestock Market, where cattle arrived from the Pampas to be checked and sold for consumption), the market attracts around 15,000 people every weekend with up to 700 stands selling gaucho crafts like mates, ponchos, blankets and silver and leather goods, as well as traditional regional cuisine like locro, empanadas and tamales. The market is also worth a visit for its artistic displays - there are often music and dance performances as well as displays and contests of gaucho horseriding and games of pato - Argentina's national sport, a mix between polo and netball!
Sundays and public holidays, 11am - 8pm, apart from in January and February when the market is held on Saturday evenings from 6pm.
