A.R.A. Uruguay Museum Ship

Argentina's oldest remaining ship

This corvette is the Argentine navy's oldest ship still afloat. It was built in England in 1874 and was used as a training ship from 1877 until 1880, for the first year's of Argentina's new naval school. The ship participated in the expedition to Comodoro Py that reaffirmed Argentina's sovereignty over Patagonia and, in 1903, made headlines around the world for its heroic rescue of the crew of a Swedish ship, the Antarctic, which had been shipwrecked in extreme weather.
