10am | Historic Quarter

Discover the landmarks from the city’s foundation.

Start the day exploring the oldest part of the city. If you stop in Plaza de Mayo, everything around you is worth a visit, from the Casa Rosada, site of the national executive government, to the Cabildo, the location where Argentina’s May Revolution of independence began in 1810. At the start of Avenida Rivadavia you have the Metropolitan Cathedral, Argentina’s most important Catholic site, which houses the mausoleum San Martín, liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru.

If you’re in the area at 11am you can catch the changing of the grenadier guards, who cross the Plaza de Mayo between the mausoleum and the Casa Rosada.
