10.30am | Meeting Perón and Evita's office

Eva Peron's office at the then central post office

Present in tours

Luna Park (Bouchard 465) is Buenos Aires' most traditional stadium for boxing and other events. It was here at a fundraising event for victims of an earthquake in San Juan province that Eva Duarte is believed to have first met the then military general Juan Domingo Perón in 1944. The following year they were married, and in 1946 Perón was elected president and Evita became Argentina's First Lady.

If you head back to Av. Leandro N. Alem, at the junction with Sarmiento, you can visit the impressive Centro Cultural Kirchner (Sarmiento 151), the former Buenos Aires Central Post Office.

This impressive neo-classical building has been lavishly restored and redesigned as a cultural centre and concert venue. You can walk through the reconstructed Sala Eva Perón, which in 1946 served as the office of the then First Lady, where she would receive donations for her social projects.

To continue the itinerary

Move south a few blocks on the same avenue until you hit the Plaza de Mayo and the famous Casa Rosada.
