With the summer well underway, Buenos Aires is expected to attract some 300,000 cruise tourists this season. The majority hail from Brazil, the United States and Europe, but a notable number come from the provinces of Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Santa Fe. More than half are women over the age of 60, and for entertainment, nothing beats shopping and eating out.

The latest data from the city's Tourist Observatory indicates that the city’s large and varied gastronomic offering is the biggest attraction for cruises tourists once their feet are on solid ground. But it’s not all about food and drink. Cultural tours also feature highly on cruise tourists’ BA bucket list, with many only buying cruise packages if they guarantee a stop in Buenos Aires. 45% of foreign tourists and over 30% of Argentine tourists are firm fans of the city’s colonial architecture and its historic neighbourhoods.

While most foreigners like to spend at least a night in the city, 70% of Argentine cruise tourists tend to take advantage of day cruises. Some 60% of all day cruise tourists come with their families, while 40% come in couples.
