Café Retiro inside the grand Retiro train station is one of the city's classics.
The cafe has been restored to its former glory and splendour, with its dark boiserie, parquet, elegant furnishings and impressive stained glass dome.
Legend has it that the writer Leopoldo Lugones drank his last coffee here before taking a train to Tigre and committing suicide in February 1938.
