Founded under the name Bar Rivadavia in 1890, this bar took it's current name "Bar de los Angelitos", or bar of the little angels, from an ironic comment made by the neighbourhood's one-time police commander, who regarded the bar as a meeting place for local ruffians.
Legendary tango singer Carlos Gardel lived nearby at Rincón 135 and this bar was one of his favourite handouts. The venue is also the subject of a tango with the same name, written by José Razzano and Cátulo Castillo, and made famous by the orchestra of Aníbal Troilo with the voice of Alberto Marino.
The venue now has a more salubrious atmosphere, with elegant furnishings and daily tango shows.
